Research project: Development of strategies to protect salivary glands from radiation caused by radioligand therapy (RLT)

The project aims to minimize the negative side effects of radioligands on salivary glands, either by (i) blocking the binding of PSMA targeting drugs in the vicinity of gland aquaporins during radiation therapy with compounds that occupy these binding sites (e.g. bind to aquaporins or their interaction partners), (ii) equipping radioprotectors which have radical-scavenging properties with moieties that recognise aquaporins or their interaction partners, or (iii) developing PSMA- and/or GCPII-ligands with photocleavable linkers.
