Molecule of the month - MMSE

16α-[¹⁸F]Fluoroestradiol is  radiolabeled form of estradiol that allows whole-body, noninvasive evaluation of tissues expressing estrogen receptors (ER). It was the first receptor-targeted PET radiotracer for oncology and has been used as a research agent for several decades.[1]
Recently, 16α-[¹⁸F]Fluoroestradiol has been increasingly used in clinics (under approved INDs, compassionate use programs) for the detection of metastatic ER-positive breast cancer.[2]
