Malignant melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer, with one of the highest mortality rates. To improve the chances of successful treatment and survival, detection of primary and metastatic melanoma at an early stage is very important.N-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl)-5-[18F]fluoropicolinamide ([18F]DMPY2) is a pyridine-based benzamide derivative having a high affinity and selectivity for melanin which is overexpressed in over 90% of melanomas and is closely associated with tumor heterogeneity and therapy response [1].
Compared to [18F]FDG which is currently used in clinics for malignant melanoma imaging, [18F]DMPY2 shows reduced susceptibility to inflammatory interference and is superior differentiating false-positive lesions in first clinical trials [2,3].
The precursor (ABX prod. no. 5770) to produce [18F]DMPY2 via a simple nucleophilic substitution reaction and its reference compound (ABX prod. no. 5771) are available for research and development.
